Life can be challenging, but you don’t have to face it alone.

Welcome to Maine Counselling. I’m glad you’re here.

Whether you’re considering counselling for the first time or thinking about returning to it, taking that first step can feel daunting. You might be unsure what to expect, uncertain about where to begin, or simply looking for a space where you can talk openly about what’s going on in your life. Wherever you find yourself right now, I hope you find the information and reassurance you need here.

A space where you matter

Life doesn’t always unfold as we expect. At times, we can feel overwhelmed by the pressures and responsibilities of everyday life. We may find ourselves struggling with stress or anxiety, navigating relationship difficulties, coping with loss or grief, or feeling stuck without quite understanding why.

Sometimes, there isn’t one particular thing wrong. You might simply feel that something needs to change, or that you would like to understand yourself and your experiences a little better.

Whatever brings you to counselling, your feelings and experiences matter. You don’t need to have all the answers, know exactly what you want to talk about, or wait until things feel unbearable before seeking support.

At Maine Counselling, I offer a safe, confidential and supportive space where you can talk openly, feel heard and explore the things that matter to you, at your own pace and without judgement.

Understanding yourself and finding a way forward

Counselling isn’t about being told what to do or having someone else provide all the answers. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect and begin to make sense of your experiences, feelings and relationships.

Sometimes, understanding the past can help us recognise patterns that continue to affect us in the present. At other times, we may need support to navigate current challenges, manage difficult emotions or think about what we want our future to look like.

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic perspectives to help me understand and respond to your individual needs. I recognise that everyone is different, and there is no single approach that works for everyone.

Our work together will be guided by what feels important to you. We can explore past experiences, make sense of present difficulties and consider your hopes, plans and goals for the future.

My aim is to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself, recognise your strengths and discover new ways of approaching the challenges you face.

You don’t have to have everything figured out

One of the things I want people to know is that you don’t need to arrive at counselling with everything neatly worked out.

You might come with a clear idea of what you want to explore, or you might find it difficult to put your feelings into words. You may have spent a long time supporting others, putting their needs first or trying to manage everything yourself.

Whatever your circumstances, counselling offers an opportunity to give yourself some time and attention.

It can be a place to explore difficult feelings, gain a fresh perspective, build confidence and develop a stronger connection with yourself. Change doesn’t always happen overnight, and progress may look different for everyone. Sometimes, the smallest shifts in understanding can be the beginning of something meaningful.

You deserve the opportunity to explore what is happening in your life and consider what might help you move forward.

Meaningful change is possible

Reaching out for support takes courage. It can be difficult to acknowledge that things aren’t quite as we would like them to be, particularly when we have become accustomed to coping on our own.

But asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. It is an opportunity to invest in your own wellbeing.

I believe that with the right support, greater understanding and space to reflect, it is possible to develop new perspectives, strengthen resilience and begin to make positive changes.

At Maine Counselling, my aim is to offer a compassionate and empathetic relationship in which you feel comfortable exploring your experiences and finding a way forward that feels right for you.

You don’t need to have all the answers today. Sometimes, the first step is simply giving yourself permission to begin.

Because you matter most
